Day one of two in Phoenix for Spring Training 2010. The plan was to get in early and get our eat on at Matt's Big Breakfast. Long lines resulted in a change of plans. Not wanting to drive very far, we Yelped! local breakfast fare and with very few options in the area, we decided on Toast. It's a tiny little place that seats no more then 20.
1. blueberry banana bread - this was sitting in a cake stand/dome. being suckers for bread in general, we ordered one and were not disappointed. it was served toasted so it had a nice crunch but also maintained its moisture within, making the butter unnecessary. we used it anyways. nice way to start breakfast.
2. nyc sandwich with bacon, swiss cheese, soft egg on crossaint - simple breakfast sandwich. but simple, with fresh ingredients, made this sandwich a winner. croissant was buttery, veggies were crisp, the sandwich was yummy.
3. smoked salmon on ciabatta - another "bready" dish. to reiterate, we like bread. salmon played a back seat in this dish. the tomatoes, olive oil and cream cheese shined through. another layer of salmon would have made this a real winner. still good.
Toast is a very cutesy place. Appeared as though they were frequented by a good number of "regulars". Service was what to be expected at such a location, personal and cheery. Would definitely visit again next time we're in Phoenix, unless there's no wait at Matt's.
