The last time we walked through the ferry building, we were on a mission to locate the salumi cone at Boccalone. We bypassed Out the Door and thought to ourselves "who the heck pays $8.25 for a bowl of pho??"
Then we find out that Out the Door is cousin to The Slanted Door, a very popular and well-known Vietnamese restaurant that boasts the use of local ingredients and "ecologically farmed meat, game and poultry." Hmmm...vietnamese food with a conscience? Definitely worth a try.
1. crispy imperial rolls
2. pork buns
3. 5‐spice chicken with vermicelli
4. pecan-caramel mousse with cocoa streusel
Very uninspiring. There was nothing spectacular or even special about the flavors and tastes. All were something we've grown accustomed to with Vietnamese cooking. We've had better and we've had worse. I guess the only difference is you don't have to worry about getting a stomachache after eating here. Maybe because it was a to-go shop that you don't really get to experience the menu and Chef Phan's creativity. Will definitely need to try The Slanted Door next time to see what all the hype is about.
