OC DinDin-A-GoGo

OC DinDin-A-GoGo is Orange County's attempt to bring the big LA food truck scene down the 5 freeway. Every Wednesday night different food trucks come together in the K1 parking lot in Irvine in a mini food truck festival fashion. I was surprised at how many people stuck around to hangout with friends - it was a very tailgate-like atmosphere. Very different from the grab-and-go I was picturing.

This was our first food truck affair. As much as we love food, we are as impatient as they come. A 1 hour wait for food is not something we prefer to do -we'd rather just not eat. So when F&E wanted to check out DinDin-A-GoGo, we figured "Heck, it's Irvine. How crowded can it be?"

And thankfully it wasn't. Maybe because these food trucks aren't as popular but there was hardly a long wait at any of the trucks...with the longest lines forming at Lomo Arigato and Tropical Shave Ice. Other trucks in attendence were Barcelona On the Go, Piaggio and Tasty Meat. We tried food from every truck but didn't get a chance to take pictures of everything. The Kogi truck also showed up but they decided to keep themselves estranged from the rest of the trucks by parking at the other end of the parking lot. Needless to say, the line for Kogi wrapped around the corner.

Lomo Arigato is a Peruvian truck with Japanese employees and owner - hence the name. There are only 3 things on the menu: lomo saltado, peruvian fried rice and spaghetti saltado (which was taken off the menu for the night). We tried the lomo saltado with steak - everyone seemed to enjoy it. Not spectacular but decent.

Barcelona On the Go is a Spanish tapas-style food truck. We got excited and ordered $37 worth of food from this truck. Nothing was memorable except the bacon-wrapped figs. Nice crunch on the outside from the crisp bacon and a sweet gooey fig on the inside. Ray is normally not a fig fan but he gobbled it up. It was a very popular item on the menu and sold out after an hour or so.

Tropical Shaved Ice Truck was one of the more popular trucks and the only dessert one on site. The shaved ice was quite good - similar in texture to the 'snowy' you can get as Class 302 and Pa Pa Walk. We had mango, passionfruit, condensed milk and li hing powder on ours....yummy!
