During this short 6-day vacation to Honolulu, Ray and I decided to take a break from blogging and left the fancy camera at home. We had every intention of just eating and relaxing. Until he took me to one of his favorite spots: Sugoi. Sugoi started as a hole-in-the-wall establishment and has quickly grown into one of the island's favorite destinations for Garlic Chicken. I just had to blog the place, even with just my iPhone camera, out of respect for the awesomeness that is their garlic chicken.

1. garlic chicken mini-plate with mac salad - the chicken was crunchy on the outside with moist and tender meat on the inside. The sauce had a nice balance of sweet and tang. The garlic flavor is extremely strong though but as garlic lovers, we can only ask for more please! The mac salad can definitely use some work though - it tastes like mayo straight from the jar. Defintely needs some additional spices and maybe olive oil to thin it out.

2. Yakisoba - pretty decent; good alternative to the white rice. You can order the noodles with a side of garlic chicken. Yummmm!

I tried looking for the sauce recipe online but couldn't find the one for Sugoi. I found other versions (mainly heavy on the mirin and soy sauce) so will definitely need to try it at home. In the meantime however, I bought two bottles of the garlic sauce to take back to LA so we can relive the Sugoi yumminess.

Overall, one of my favorite meals in Hawaii (so good that it was the first AND last meal of our trip).
