As we had some time to kill before our flight, we ventured to the Mission District to try two things: Philz Coffee and Humphry Slocombe's. Humphry's is one of the newer gourmet ice cream stores on the scene and is definitely not your typical ice cream store. Flavors range from Boccalone Proscuitto and Jesus Juice (red wine and Coke) to Salt and Pepper and Foie Gras. While it may not be the most kid-friendly place, it is definitely worthy of the long lines and wait.

Breakfast surprise
1. Secret breakfast - Bourbon and cornflakes. This is the most popular ice cream flavor. Crunchy and boozy - make sure your kids don't order it.

PB
2. Open Hand Fluffer Nutter - As peanut butter is one of Ray's favorite foods, it was a no-brainer that he would choose this flavor. However, in doing some research, there is a whole other story behind this Open Hand Fluffer Nutter that makes this ice cream experience even more meaningful.

Open Hand Fluffer Nutter is Humphry Slocombe's ice cream charity creation. This flavor was launched in conjunction with Project Open Hand, a nonprofit organization supporting nutritional education and meals to the ill, homebound, seniors and HIV/AIDs patients. The ice cream is a blend of POH's homemade peanut butter (made by volunteers) and Humphry Slocombe's house-made marshmallow fluff. A portion of the proceeds go to benefit POH's many projects.

We can see why Humphry Slocombe's is a popular destination. It's unique and more adult flavors sets it apart from the other popular ice cream places like Bi-Rite and Mitchell's. Ray still prefers Mitchell's and I am still a big fan of Bi-Rite's salted caramel ice cream and Sam's Sundae (chocolate ice cream with bergamot olive oil, maldon sea salt and whipped cream) but we will never say no to anyone's request to go to Humphry Slocombe's for some yummy ice cream.
