4 Days in Toronto

Toronto copy

I tagged along with Ray on a recent business trip to Toronto with two targets in mind: yummy dim sum and Susur Lee. We've been itching to go to Toronto for awhile now, after watching season 2 of Top Chef Masters. We loved following him through the season, as he was the first Asian chef to command the same level of respect from both his colleagues and the audience that were lucky enough to try his food. His cooking style, fusing both Western and Eastern flavors and techniques, along with his explosive personality in the kitchen, kept us entertained throughout the season. Susar has two restaurants in Toronto now, but only LEE was open when we were visiting. Since then, BENT has also opened in the Dundas West area.

 Toronto-2

We were so focused on dim sum and Susur that we didn't really plan on eating anything else. Relying on Yelp and Chowhound to dictate our meals, we found the most memorable experiences at Splendido and the Peameal Bacon Sandwich at Carousel Bakery. There was still a lot of great food places we wanted to explore (especially Toronto's Chinatown) so I would definitely come back again.

Toronto-3

Amidst all the eating, we were able to do a couple of tourist-y things, including walking along the waterfront, a visit to St. Lawrence Market, a boat tour through the Toronto Islands and the Hop-on Hop-off bus to tour the city. We didn't time our trip too well since it was last minute, so we missed the opportunity to see both the Raptors and the Blue Jay play. Looks like we will just have to come back soon!
