When we first found out about J&J's wedding, the first thing that came to our minds was "Ad Hoc!!!!" We were hoping we'd chosen the Buttermilk Fried Chicken night to go but as told to us by our waitress, Fried Chicken Night is every other Monday night. Having arrived on a Thursday and departing the following Sunday, a union of our palates and that tasty chicken was just not meant to be. Luckily for us, that didn't seem to matter, as our dinner turned out to be super yummy and the best meal we had all weekend!

smoked trout
1. smoked trout and endive salad - looks like a big mess. You'd think that this salad was contructed by going to the farmer's market blindfolded and grabbing the first ten things you run into and throwing it on a plate. Ahh, but then you'd be wrong. WAY wrong. Everything on here served a purpose. And this plating turned out to be five different salads in one. No two fork-fulls were the same. Every time you took a stab at the plate, you picked up different bits and pieces. And every bite was delicious. The smoked trout was wonderful. Tiny slivers of oranges were very sweet. Leafy greens were earthy, hearty, crispy and fresh. The light lemon dressing tied everything together. One of the best salads we've ever had.

lamb
2. herb-crusted lamb sirloin - seeing lamb on the menu as the main dish didn't inspire any level of excitement. Tasting the lamb, on the other hand, was like hitting the taste bud lotto. So simple! Lamb with a panko crust. That's it! How can something that seems so simple taste so spectacular?!? The lamb was cooked to near perfection. Personally, the parts cooked more well done were tastier. The sirloin on its own was good. But something magical happens when that crunchy, herby crust and lamb come together in a flavor match made in heaven. So good...so good!

Cheese
3.carr valley cheese co's benedictine - probably our least favorite dish of the night as the cheese didn't really stand out in any way. The honey was delish though.

Lemon
4. lemon chiffon cake with raspberry mousse and buttermilk sorbet - so good we had to restrain ourselves from licking the plate. Great flavor and textural balance - crumble seems to be every chef's go-to food to add to a dessert for texture.

We loved, loved, loved this meal! Nothing was short of delicious and we will definitely be coming back the next time we go to Napa - and we will make sure to come on Fried Chicken Monday!
