We settled on the girl and the fig for our last meal in Napa before heading home. We saw this cute establishment while eating at El Dorado Kitchen across the street for J&J's rehearsal dinner. Any place that has a variety of cheese plates is a must-try for me!
1. the works - three selections of cheese, cured meats, seasonal fruit, house-made fig cake and baguette. Forgot the names of each one but the two non-bloomy cheeses were the best. The fig cake, candied nuts and jam were the most tasty of the accompaniments.
2. eggs benedict with poached eggs, Niman Ranch jambon, hollandaise, red bliss potato home fries on grilled ciabatta - Simple dish made with quality ingredients. That being said, nothing really stood out about this dish. Everything was pretty well executed, but the dish just lacked a level of flavor that would make you want to come back for more.
3. duck confit & potato hash, poached eggs, applewood smoked bacon - I think we're so used to duck being served using asian style preparations that whenever we have it confited, it just doesn't seem to meet our expectations. Wouldn't say this dish was bad, but just not very tasty. Again, it lacked any amount of zeal to make coming back for seconds a consideration.
A very cute french bistro type establishment. Kinda fun. Kinda cute. Kinda disappointing when it came to the food. Not the best way to end this food-filled wedding weekend, but we still left Napa with the feeling that the area is filled with great ingredients and chefs who know what to do with them, thus making a return visit to California's grapeland a must.
