Beets

Ever since the beet salad at 11 Madison Park, we have developed quite an affection for all things beets. As soon as we saw the Seed Bank, we knew we'd walk out of the store with some kind of beet seeds. We limited ourselves to two types, a yellow one and a red one.

We tried a new burpee system to grow the seeds, ones where you can actually tranplant the entire bio-degradable container into the ground. However, our consensus is that this system stinks and that the original Burpee we used for our tomatoes are the best because of the built-in watering system that ensures constant moisture for the roots. With this system, the plants were constantly withering and drying out.

Not all of our plants made it to the ground. We only planted 6 red beets and 2 yellow ones. Keeping our fingers crossed that the plants are strong enough to thrive in the garden soil.
