Herbs

Herbs are every amateur gardener's go-to plant. During one of our Lowes runs, we came across a 75% off herb garden set complete with 3 cute white pots with chalkboard surfaces for writing the names of the herbs and seeds for parsley, basil and chives. I was a little hesistant about the quality of the seeds but those pots were just too darn cute to pass up (of course, I had to spend 10 minutes convincing Ray how I just HAD to have them before he relented).

Basil is probably one of our most favorite herbs, since they go so nicely with our heirloom tomatoes. So I threw out the basil seeds in the packet and instead, used some heirloom Genovese basil seeds I picked up from the Seed Bank in Petaluma. If you ever end up in Petaluma (we stayed there for J&J's wedding) and you want to pick up some heirloom seeds, we highly recommend making a stop at Seed Bank, a store that sells hundreds and hundreds of heirloom seeds for every single plant and fruit you can think of. We walked out with like 15 packets of seeds for yummy things like baby yellow and white carrots, brussel sprouts, MORE tomatoes, delicata squash and yellow and red beets. Mind you, we don't even have any space to plant all of it but we couldn't resist buying them.

The herbs started off really, really slow. Or maybe because I'm not the most patient person ever that everything just seems to be growing at a snails' pace.

After 1 month, the herbs are FINALLY showing some progress, especially the basil.

However, I'm really starting to question the integrity of those cheap 75% off seeds. The chives and parsley don't seem to be as hearty as the basil from Seed Bank. Hopefully I won't have to regrow them.
