Slater's 50/50 is a neighborhood burger joint tucked away in the Anaheim Hills. Similiar to The Counter, Slater's calls their menu concept a "burger by design," allowing you to choose from a variety of breads, meats, toppings and sauces to compose your own burger.

What makes this place so special? Their 50/50 patty comprised of 50% ground beef and 50% bacon. 50% bacon?!?! Of course we had to give this place a try.

5050

1. The 50/50 - 50/50 burger, fried egg, avocado, pepper jack cheese, chipotle mayo. While there are some yummy things worth the extra calories, this burger definitely isn't one of them. You can taste the heavy bacon flavor but when all macerated in your mouth, is very similiar to a regular burger with strips of bacon on top. In fact, Ray prefers the latter better because of the added crispy texture. I decided to hold off on the fried egg on my burger. The bread was very good though - fresh and soft while still holding well against the moisture of the meat.

PBJ
2. Peanut butter and Jellousy - Sterling Silver ground beef patty, thick cut bacon, creamy peanut butter and jelly. This was another pre-designed burger on the menu that jumped out at us. We've never heard of PBJ on a burger until now. Ray preferred this burger to the 50/50 with the contrasting sweetness to the meat. However, this burger is not for everyone - I couldn't appreciate it and in the one small bite I took, all I could taste was the overpowering flavors of the peanut butter.

Not pictured is the Vampire Dip that we ordered as an appetizer. Similiar to the traditional spinach and artichoke dip, the Vampire is a hot and gooey mixture of parmesean cheese, artichokes and garlic, served alongside fried pita chips. Very yummy and my personal favorite of the night.

All and all, the general concensus was that it was a disappointing meal (everyone had high expectations). In fact, we were all so disappointed that we decided against the Maple Bacom Milkshake for dessert. If it was a neighborhood joint, we would probably frequent it every so often. However, as it took us 40 minutes to get there from Whittier, we will not be coming back any time soon. The Counter is definitely a closer and more yummy alternative.
