Crab-4

During this last trip to the San Francisco, we took the advice from a foodie friend and made our way from downtown SF to the outer Richmond area, the home of a popular Vietnamese restaurant by the name of PPQ Dungeness Island. We love crab and garlic noodles, as do most of the people that frequent Crusteaceans, Thanh Long and Anqi, 3 of the popular Asian-inspired restaurants in the An empire. However, with that said, I'm sure everyone can also agree that the prices are a tad bit high for the amount of food that you get, especially the small serving of garlic noodles. In comes PPQ, a more traditional Vietnamese restaurant that services the same crab and noodles combination at lower prices and larger portions.

Crab1. Peppercorn Crab - There were four different crab preparations to choose from and we originally opted for the peppercorn, as recommended by our friend. The waiter convinced us to switch up one of the orders (we ordered 3 crabs) to the more traditional Roasted version. Both crabs were yummy, although we preferred the more dry and flavorful Peppercorn over the Roasted version which sat in a pool of garlic liquid. Nothing too different from the usual crab you can get at an Asian restaurant.

Crab-32. House Garlic Noodles - at $7.95, these noodles were a steal! I can't say the flavors were an exact match to those Crustaceans and I still definitely prefer their version more but these noodles are definitely a worthy alternative.

Crab-23. Sauteed String Beans- A last minute addition to our meal to counter the carbs.

All in all, a yummy meal to end our weekend in San Francisco. Between 6 people, we ate 3 whole crabs, 3 bowls of garlic noodles and two veggie dishes, all for about $200. We even had extra crab and noodles to take home! Definitely a good deal and a great alternative to Crustaceans/Thanh Long if you are craving garlic noodles and crab but don't want to spend ~$50 a person.
